Method

This is a two-phase research project on best practices for tourism in national parks and protected areas, with a particular focus on Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) and how they contribute to the goals of the Convention on Biological Diversity.

The timeframe for the project is August 2012 – February 2013.

Key questions

Does tourism have a positive impact on conservation? What conditions would be necessary for tourism to contribute positively to conservation goals?

Are tourism concessions in national parks good business?  Do they generate revenues that are significant enough to merit the investment required?  Under what conditions?

Does tourism in and around national parks contribute meaningfully to local economies?

How are countries around the world approaching the idea of public private partnerships to manage tourism in national parks?

Other subtantive matters on the methodology are presented on this blog’s posts (click here).
