About

This blog is about Semeia Institute and our project to understand tourism Public-Private Partnerships and conservation.

Set up in 2008, we are a non-profit NGO that expresses  the beliefs of Pedro Passos*, his family and a core group of men and women, all of whom devote time, energy, and intellectual and financial resources to transform protected areas into platforms for social and economic progress in an alliance of conservation and development.

Mission: “To make Brazilian Protected Areas become a source of pride for the entire nation”

Vision: "To become a reference for bringing together public and private entities to develop responsible, world-class management models for Brazil’s Protected Areas (PAs)."

We have promoted projects to add value by:
  • Helping governments to attract private initiative and to develop managing models that conceal interests;
  • Developing innovative solutions for PA management along with the public and private sectors, civil society and academy;
  • Bringing in management benchmarks from other industries and countries.

We neither run nor manage any businesses at the PAs. We act as a catalyst, joining efforts, people, domestic and international corporations, able to contribute for management excellence of Brazilian PAs.
